Virtual WIMP Server
After running my server from home for a few months, I’ve decided to host my site in a virtual machine on my work PC. I have to keep the box running 24×7 anyway and I have VMWare Workstation running on it with a nice copy of Windows Server 2008. I might as well put it to good use. So I installed MySQL, PHP, and IIS and here we go.
*** Note: I used the following tutorial to get up and running.
IIS, PHP, and MySQL on Server Core
It’s been a bit since I updated the site. Things have been a bit busy and there are a lot of changes coming up in the next few weeks. I’ll post about that later. The new hospital website should be going live soon. There are just too many people to satisfy and its taking a bit of time to get all the information gathered.
Over that last month I’ve been re-configuring one of our Cisco ASA 5510 firewalls. I now have it acting as our primary firewall with dual WAN connections. An SLA monitor keeps track of the links and changes the routing on the fly for redundancy. I’ve also configured one of the ports for a DMZ which currently offers public Internet access. I’ve set the box to do plain old L2TP/IPSEC VPN goodness along with SSL VPN. Our current primary connection runs at 25Mbps down and 2.5Mbps up. The secondary runs at 7Mbps down and 1Mbps up. RDP runs really nice at those speeds. The OpenBSD router that I built has done a good job. We have three of these ASA 5510s. I figured I’d put one of them to good use and get Internet and VPN redundancy knocked out with one hit.
On the personal front, I just purchased a 2005 Suzuki Vinson 500 4×4 quad with a plow. My brother-in-law is in the ATV business and gave me a tip on the bike. I think I got a pretty decent deal on it. It sure is nice not having to shovel the driveway anymore. I still have my 1991 Suzuki 250 Quad Racer for speed.
More to come on the huge changes coming up…..
