Workings of the Inter-Web

I’ve spent the majority of the week rebuilding the organizations website. It’s not live yet. It was originally written in ColdFusion. I’m in the process of converting it to a PHP/MySQL driven platform. I was surprised at how much PHP I actually remembered. I had the members database created, populated, and functioning in one day.

Dreamweaver CS3, GM Radios, and New System

I’m running my new system without any issues. I have to say this is the best system I’ve built to date. The only issues I’m having are with the conversion to Windows XP x64 and my lack of knowledge. The system is quick, relatively quiet, and faster than hell… to me anyway. I put my old 75 GB Raptors in a RAID 0 configuration from my last box. They’re still speedy as hell too.

I’m in process of learning Dreamweaver CS3. The organization that I work for wants to see if it would be feasible for us to create the website in-house. I’ve been watching tutorials on the subject for the last week or so. CSS have basically taken over on most websites. I got handed a site from my wife’s horse riding organization to administer. I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting on creating it and it’s definitely a work in progress. You can check it out here: http://www.gldra.org

My 2002 Impala radio doesn’t like to have Sirius equipment hooked to it. I found a 2003 Impala radio on eBay for 99 cents plus $9 shipping. I figured for $10, I can experiment to see if I can get Sirius installed in my car. God knows the radio stations in South Western Michigan blow asshole.

50% overclock, not bad. I may be able to adjust the CPU voltage and get the system up to 3.2GHz.

E2180 @ 3.0GHz

I did bump up the voltage 1.3625… .0125v from the default of 1.35. I may try to bring it down to default voltage and see what stability it achieves. $80 processor @ 3.0GHz….. Mmm Mmm Mmm!

New system and new music for 2008

I ordered my new computer yesterday. I deviated from the list of parts I listed in my previous post. I bumped up the DDR2 to CAS 4 sticks but I went with a slower CPU. The E8400 and its Xeon equivalent, the E3110, are out of stock at all reputable suppliers. I chose the E2180 instead. It’s a 2GHz dual core chip that should be able to overclock to 3GHz with the Blue Orb II cooler I bought. The E2180 set me back $80… one third of the cost of the E8400, Q6600, or E3110. My plan is to upgrade to the latest sweet spot Quad core… the Q9450 in 6 to 8 months. I’m looking forward to going to a small form factor PC.

In other news, I’ve been using OpenPandora for the last couple of weeks exclusively for my music needs. I don’t know if I’m getting “new” music, but I’m hearing music that I actually like. I have three channels programmed. Feel free to check out My Pandora Profile. I’ve also started using my Last.fm account via OpenPandora and stuck it in my sidebar so everyone can see what type of music deviant I am. ;)

On the work front, I just ordered Visual Studio 2008 Professional for our development needs because it looks like I’m going to be doing a lot more programming. I actually enjoy using the latest version of Visual Basic. It sure the hell beats VB6. Is there anybody still programming in VB6? I hope not. ;)

I’m also enjoying my new Treo 700wx smartphone.
