New facility now open.

After months of planning and preparation, the new facility is up and running. All the fiber and cooper runs worked. All the telephones worked. Everything up to this point just worked. We still have to get the wireless services and the cable TV up. Those are my biggest concerns as of right now. I’ve taken a break from programming for the last couple weeks in order to get the new building up and running. Now that three departments have moved to the new building, the IT department is scheduled to move to a MUCH larger location. I’m going to say at least 5 times larger than our current offices. Probably the same for my last job.

Looks like we have a LAN party scheduled for December 8th. The boy and I are both looking forward to that.

I may have a handle on another Internet connection for the house. I’d really like to have a redundant connection. I plan on getting things working in the next couple of days now that the big move is done. I’ll update my progress.

Happy holidays to all the friends that continue to read my worthless blog. Cheers!

Upcoming weeks are going to be busy.

Our new facility at work is scheduled to open on November 19th. We need to move computers, monitors, printers, faxes, and phones for the three departments involved. It looks like it will be a long night on Friday the 16th because we’ll be damned if we’re coming in on the weekend!

This week we’ve installed the 6 Cisco 48-port switches (two in each closet), 8 Cisco WAPs, and the Cisco Wireless LAN Controller. It wasn’t a moment too soon. Two hours after the fiber trunks were up, we got a call from a department that needed to activate a new piece of equipment in the building.
