Over the last week I’ve been cleaning out our “junk room”. It’s a 16×24 room on the 2nd story… and until last weekend it was full of shit. I went through everything, sorted out the keepers, burned the burnables, tossed the garbage, and boxed the rest for an upcoming yard sale. The room is in pretty good shape. I have some trim to finish around the window, a door to replace, some light fixtures to change, and have someone install some carpet. The room has no ducts for heat or air though. I’m still debating what to do on that front. This room with be our bedroom.
I’m taking tomorrow off for a four day weekend. We’re going to the Binder Park Zoo with my boy’s school and some relatives. Hopefully the weather is good.
It’s way too early to be thinking about the 2008 election but I’m so completely disgusted with G. W. Bush that I’ve been looking around for the next candidate. I’m glad I didn’t vote for him. I normally vote as a Democrat but not this year. If you haven’t heard of Ron Paul, you need to watch some of the YouTube.com videos on him. He owned the South Carolina Republican Debates.
Check him out: Ron Paul for President!

I’ve been using Firefox for so long, I decided to load up my site with IE. It showed some BS link that I’d deleted a month ago. I fixed it!

… is the shit! I have one of our new IBM servers running ESX with three VMs of Server 2003. I can export one of these machines, create a new ESX VM from ISO, or import an existing, stand-alone VM. Why build a real server anymore? Create VMs on super redundant storage, make snapshots of them, copy them for backup, export them… the list goes on a on.
My boy and I took our RC cars down to the beach. I was really disappointed with the performance of his truck. My car did circles around him and the battery lasted much longer.
I’m currently downloading all the album art for my music collection with this cool little app. I had most of the art but this makes it pretty automatic. I currently have 3569 complete albums on a 300GB external drive. I’m hoping to do a bit more DJing this summer!

What kind of cool stuff did I do today? Well. I was able to get our first virtual machine running on VMWare ESX with an iSCSI connection to our IBM/NetApp NAS. It was a bit of a challenge but I figured out the LUNS, iSCSI initiators, virtual machine settings, etc. Cool stuff. We have two IBM servers that are going to house VMs. We’ll have a virtual Active Directory controller running on each server.
The hospital is going to be opening two clinics by the end of this month. I need to start gathering an equipment list for the new 24×7, 3pm – 11pm urgent care clinic along with a new Covert medical clinic.
My keyless entry stopped working on the Impala yesterday. I checked both fobs… nothing. I did a voltage check on the battery in my main fob. The meter read .8 volts. It’s supposed to be 3 volts. The battery is just your standard CR2032 computer BIOS battery. I just so happen to have a few of those laying around for some strange reason.
After I replaced the battery, the fob still didn’t unlock the car. A few searches on the Internet told me to hold down both the lock and unlock buttons next to the car for a few seconds. This is supposed to sync the keyless entry module and the fob. It worked!
One of my best friend’s Christmas tree fields went up in flames today. It was probably burning at its best when I called my wife to tell her about it. She was driving on I-196 next to 109th Ave and she told me she could see the smoke. That works out to be around 10-12 miles away. Luckily the fire was contained and the only thing that suffered was some old trees. It was on channel 3 news tonight.

I was told to start doing a bit more journal writing… positive writing.
Here we go!
Today the CFO came down and told us they needed pictures for emergency preparedness and the E.R. camera was supposedly broke.
He said “Everybody has looked at it and couldn’t get it to turn on.”
I’ve been known to fix stuff by unusual measures. Paperclips and rubber bands are some of my favorite methods. I took a look at the camera and sure enough it wouldn’t power on. A quick search on Google Groups for Canon Powershot A95 Power yielded me this post.
Taking a look at the memory card door showed me the problem. Someone had dropped the camera. The memory card door has (or had in this case) a little piece of plastic that closed a switch when the door was closed. I took a small piece of rubber hose and jammed the switch to the closed state. Viola! Camera workie again.
Here’s a quick and dirty tutorial on 2000 Active Directory to 2003 Active Directory migration:
Migrate from a 2000 Active Directory to 2003 Active Directory
1. Add a 2003 Server to your domain… but not as a Domain Controller.
2. Run “adprep /forestprep” and “adprep /domainprep” on the 2000 Server DC. (adprep is found on the 2003 Server disc)
3. Enable Domain Controller on the 2003 Server as an additional DC.
4. Turn on “Global Catalog” on the 2003 Server DC.
5. Run “dcpromo” on the 2000 Server DC to remove it as a DC.
My son has a Traxxas Stampede and I have a Traxxas Rustler. (RC cars) I just bought a Duratrax IntelliPeak Twin Peak Charger. It charges two batteries at the same time. I also just ordered four new 1900mAh, 6-cell battery packs yesterday. I’m looking forward to doing some RC’ing with him this weekend.
