The DSL folks got in touch with me last Sunday. They’re ready to have me do the deal. I went over last night and bolted the yagi antenna to their roof tripod, pointed it half-assed towords my house, and proceeded to get a 165K speed. I was only able to get a signal strength of 8. It _should_ go up with a proper aiming.
They want to use the DSL connection via wireless connection. I stuck a Aironet 802.11B card in Head and set it up for a peer to peer network and DHCP.
The next step is to physically install the computer at their house, run the phone and wireless cables, and order the DSL. I’m hoping by next week Friday, we’ll have it going… and the school across the street will have a high speed Internet connection.

I went out and did a wireless test with the new tower. I was able to receive signal and active pings along the entire road of the perspective DSL site. The signal strength was 8-11 at one section of the road… obviously where the yagi is pointing. (If I have both wireless computers in the same room, the signal strength is around 27.) Laying the yagi on the roof of my van… (literally… I bet that messes up the signal pattern) I was able to pull a 16 meg file @ 190K with a signal strength of 8… which is a yellow grade connection with wavemon. I had both antennas hooked to 50’ of LMR400. Signal lose in a mute point now; trees too since they’re covered completely with leaves.

Rogue came over today and helped me add an additional 30 feet to my tower. By my calculation, it looks like I’m around 58 feet… secured to the house at 26 feet. It was a bit shaky around the top but it was remarkably stable. I’ll post a few pics some time. I’m more worried about getting some antennas up there:)
As for the pics of the wiring closet at work, the camera took some crap-ass pictures. I haven’t had the time to give it another go.
As for the Laser, after some serious consideration… and the current price of gas… I’ve decided to not buy the car from my dad. We don’t have a place to put a nice car right now anyway. We plan to build a garage or pole barn in the next year or two.
