Sick of not having a reliable, always on broadband connection, I’ve decided to do something about it.
The Problem:
I have a Verizon MUX (remote terminal) located on my property (leased by Verizon) 100 yards from my bedroom window. There is no fiber backbone to that MUX. I asked a Verizon employee that was working on the box one day if they’d _EVER_ be installing DSLAMs and offering DSL. He said, “Its coming.” I doubt it.
Comcast quoted me a bill for $51,000 to have cable run down my road the three miles from the nearest drop. Well we know where to place that quote don’t we?
My Plan:
There is a radio station tower 3 miles away from my home with a clean line of sight. I’ve been in contact with the proprietor of the tower. I was told that for $150/month I could have an antenna and space in the equipment room. He also told me that he didn’t have a problem with Comcast running a connection into the building.
All I need to do now is find 3-5 other residence with a clean line of sight to the tower that want _ANY_ type of always on, high speed Internet connection. I can then charge them $40 a month to recoup the costs. I don’t think this is breaking Comcast’s TOS seeings how I’m not reselling the service; merely dividing the costs of sharing it. I’m sure it’s not entirely legal though.
Since I really won’t be dealing with LAN parties anymore, I figure this will be my new hobby

I had a helluva day yesterday with the remainder of the crap coming this morning.
When I got home last night, my computer decided to have problems. It wouldn’t boot from my Raid0 array. I luckily had a WinXP install on a spare hard drive and I was able to boot off that, mount the Raid0 array and copy all my files and documents that were worth anything.
When I left for work today, I stepped in a fresh pile of dog shit. I then proceeded to back into the garbage can that I just wheeled out to the end of the driveway with my right side mirror.

Psychorage is dead. Long live the king!
I wasn’t going to say much but I feel that I have to. I find myself not having fun with LANs. There are a few select people that I enjoy seeing at parties. For the most part, I can’t stand half of the other fuckers.
I want to see Psychorage die. Why? 80% of the people that go there are a joke. I hope Seej decides to bring back the site as invite only / over 21 years of age. In the end, I only went to his site to see if anyone I enjoyed reading about posted something. I found myself not reading 70% of the posts because of the ignorance.
I’m out. I’ll still be a part of ROC. I enjoy the company of the people that put on the event. 4 LANs a year is enough for me.

Being a former admin a Psychorage, I wonder why that promotes me as a “Pussy”. Feel free to stop by and call me that in person. I’d be glad to argue the point with you.
